Research

UVA Emergency Medicine is committed to advancing patient care through cutting-edge research, innovation, and evidence-based practice. Our faculty and trainees engage in groundbreaking research projects designed to improve patient outcomes, optimize emergency care delivery, and shape the future of emergency medicine. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, we lead transformative efforts in artificial intelligence, clinical informatics, and health systems innovation, enhancing patient safety and quality care locally and nationally.

Education

Our department has a well-established residency program, GME and non-GME fellowships, as well as clerkships, electives, and workshops for medical students and others. Additionally, there are opportunities to experience emergency medicine through international programs, away rotations, and other training options.

Global Emergency Medicine

We offer a Global Emergency Medicine Fellowship for graduates of emergency medicine residency programs. This fellowship will provide fellows with the skills to practice clinically, develop emergency systems, teach, and conduct research internationally. Residents, faculty, and nursing staff have also provided teaching and medical care in Kenya, Mexico, and Nepal through the department's partnership with AMPATH.

UVA Health Emergency Department is staffed with board-certified emergency medicine physicians, specialized nursing staff, and driven and focused support care and administrative personnel. The department provides sophisticated patient care by providing access to modern technologies, consultations with specialists, and private patient rooms.
